In the working world, engineers
are often
required to communicate their ideas and concepts in writing, and
sometimes to
present them orally in front of a technical audience.
In the future, you may need to
make a technical presentation someday in English at an international engineering conference
in front of
hundreds of people.
Therefore, it is really
important to begin
now, early in your engineering or science "career," to get some useful
English training and
experience in this field. This assignment will give you an opportunity
to
research some scientific topic of interest to yourself, and to record a
video of your presentation.
Key milestones for this project
are as
follows:
Deadline

Brainstorm
and decide on your technical topic (any science or engineering topic is
OK). Choose something you're passionate about and have always wanted to
learn more about. For topic suggestions, check out these sites.
If you took Science English 1 in the spring semester, please choose a
different topic from the one you presented on in the spring.
|
Week 9 (beginning 11/24)

Submit
simple outline of key points to be presented in your
technical presentation. Begin research and start preparing PowerPoint/Keynote technical presentation.

a video of your 3-4 minute technical presentation, using PowerPoint,

number of slides to ten (10). Be sure to begin/end your presentation properly and to ask
